Back to Basics

Dear 2020,

Well, what a year you've been! With this pandemic challenging all of us in this world, it has shown everyone our true colours in times of uncertainty. I can tell you are all doing the best you can with these circumstances. After all, every action has a consequence.

For myself, I know for sure that I have been struggling with chronic stress levels due to the constant changes at work and adjusting my routine to keep my family and friends safe. My partner and I had big plans to visit my sister and her family in Australia, but that, of course, got derailed. Our pups also had unexpected health troubles, which was awful to see. Luckily for us, we have rolled with the punches and made the best of us with local camping trips, staying connected over the phone with loved ones, and making the best with our best with home projects to improve our lives.

Regardless, I must face the fact that my health has taken a bit of a hit this past year. I haven't been as active as I hoped to be, using sweets and pastries to cope with stress and maybe one too many beers in the evening. After all, I'm only human, but I could've practiced more self-control and used healthier options to reduce that stress.

So, in the spirit of this new year, here are my attainable resolutions to get me back on track to a more happy and healthy self! (with a bit of 'self-commentary' just for fun)

  1. Drink Your Greens Daily: Woman, let's be honest, you haven't been eating as well as you did before moving in with your man (we're not blaming him, it's just facts). And yes, you are to have it every day, since you may not eat them regularly. Sure they may not taste the best, but you have tricks to make them taste alright, and it doesn't take long to drink 'em down! Your metabolism and immune system will thank you.

  2. Get Your Sweat On! I know it's not fun, but you have to love how you feel after the workout routine. So thank Popsugar Fitness videos for getting your butt into shape and do a video 1-2 times per week. Okay? Okay. Now enjoy your sore abs and legs!

  3. Keep Being Creative: It's been a while, and I know you enjoy it. You have some fantastic ideas to bring forth to paper. Let your taste buds guide you to delicious ideas. And once you have them perfected, share it with the world! Who knows, you may inspire others to create beautiful pieces for themselves. And this may help you stop mindlessly snacking, oy!

Alright, that wasn't so scary! I'm not telling myself to climb any mountains before the year is over or trying to make a sculpture out of clay. Just simple things to get me back to a healthy and happy life to enjoy whatever life has to throw my way!

I hope that this has inspired you to instill some change into yourself to improve your life, whether it be to improve your health, happiness, or lifestyle.

And of course, if you need any help with your wellness journey, you know how to reach me!

Until then, stay well!
